Unveiling the Accolades

Beep Beep.jpg
Beep Beep Bucks

Beep Beep Bucks are paper dollars used at Woodfern (think similar to Monopoly money). Students can earn a Beep Beep Buck from any teacher in the building for doing something kind, helpful, or respectful. If a student is seen doing a kind, helpful or respectful act, a teacher will give a student a Beep Beep Buck to write their name on the back. At some point, the student can place their Buck in the grade level bin at the front of the school to be in the running for Student of the Month.

Student of the Month

At the end of every month, Mrs. Gelsomino pulls three "winning" Beep Beep Bucks from each grade level jar at random. Those 15 students earn Student of the Month! They are featured on the front bulletin board in the school and they also receive a Spirit Stick for their backpack. This is a big deal! These students are our leaders! The more Beep Beep Bucks a student has in the jar, the better chance they have of earning Student of the Month. Each month the bins are emptied and we start again. There are 15 students of the month each month of the school year except for September and June.

Character Education Awards

Woodfern holds Character Education Assemblies each month to celebrate a specific character trait students can show at school and within their community. At our assembly we discuss the definition of the character trait being celebrated, share some examples of what a person who has this character trait does, and we award one student from each class the character trait award. Students are nominated by teachers to receive the character trait for that month. Students who earn the character trait that month are announced during our assembly, where they receive a certificate and a Spirit Stick for their backpack. The assemblies are a great way for the school to come together and to model/support positive behavior.
